Sheikh, there is a hadith being circulated, sometimes some messages broadcast it, Sheikh, there is.
I ask you by Allah and I entrust you by Allah not to let the message stop with you. What is the ruling on dealing with it, Sheikh? As for making someone swear, for example, that a person makes another swear, or also makes an oath to him.
I swear by you to do such and such, and I swear by you to say, to say such and such.
We say regarding oaths, this does not obligate the one being sworn upon, for example, for a person to say: I made you swear, or for example.
This is not obligatory, and for this reason, when Abu Bakr said to the Prophet ﷺ: I swear by you, do not say such and such, Abu Bakr said to the Prophet peace be upon him, so the Prophet said: Do not make me swear.
This means that the Prophet ﷺ did not do what Abu Bakr as-Siddiq, may Allah be pleased with him, requested from him, because the Prophet saw that the benefit was in.
keeping it hidden. He saw the benefit in keeping it hidden and not informing him.
From this, we learn that the Prophet ﷺ, as he informed us, said that it is the right of a Muslim to fulfill his oath, and likewise.
this also applies to parents and others, as has come in a number of narrations and reports about this. We say that what relates to oaths is, in itself, not obligatory, and in itself, not obligatory.
So if someone swears an oath upon you to do something, we say: this is not obligatory for you, and it is not like his oath is binding upon you, and that if you do not do it, you have wronged yourself or anything like that. We say this.
There is no blame on a person for leaving it if he sees benefit in not doing it. That is why some people say: I swear upon you not to spread this statement.
Or this narration on ten or a hundred, or you say this or that, we say this is not required. In fact, if a person does that and the narration is fabricated about the Prophet ﷺ,
he does not bear sin, and fulfilling the oath brings no benefit. But if the matter is praiseworthy,
and the outcome is good, then it is more appropriate at that point to fulfill the companion's oath, as that is among the commendable and good things. And Allah knows best.
