It is not hidden from you the saying of the Prophet, peace be upon him, in the authentic narration: If someone comes to you whose religion you are pleased with.
If someone comes to you whose religion and character you are pleased with, then marry him off. If you do not do so, there will be fitna on earth and great corruption.
And in another wording: and widespread corruption. In our time, we hear that a righteous, suitable man,
when he proposes to some people, they reject him for no reason except that he does not agree to some conditions, such as a high dowry or having a television and the like.
Some of these conditions may even be haram, and some reject him with the excuse that he is already married. So what do you think of those who go against the meaning of this narration?
Even if not with his words, then he has gone against it with his actions.
And for the one whose religion and character you are pleased with, know that some people have righteous daughters.
Yet they may marry her to someone who does not pray or to a sinner. What is your advice and guidance for such people? May Allah reward you with good.
Advice has been given to these people by us and by others on many occasions.
And that is, what a person should do is
make his greatest concern
his religion and his character.
For this is where the blessing lies. Just as the religion and character of the man proposing are considered, so too should the religion of the woman be considered.
Because the Prophet ﷺ said: A woman is married for four things: her wealth, her lineage, her beauty, and her religion. So choose the one with religion.
And now people only marry off their daughters for very high dowries.
This is a danger to the umma.
In several ways. The first is that the blessing is removed from the marriage.
Because the marriage with the most blessing is the one that is easiest and least burdensome.
The second issue is that people are turning away from marrying the daughters of their own country.
And they go to marry from outside the country.
As is happening now, because outside the country they marry for a lower cost.
For reasons that are not to be mentioned here.
And it is known that when a person marries from outside the country—and I do not mean by "the country"
the specific city, but rather outside the kingdom.
This leads to many problems.
Because marriage brings about many rulings.
Lineage, inheritance, ties, and other things.
And this creates problems in the future.
That is why many people who married from abroad regretted what they did.
But when? After it was too late, and children had already been born.
Thirdly, if marriage becomes rare in the country.
A woman, like a man, needs marriage.
This can be a cause for zina and immorality, and we seek refuge with Allah.
Fifthly. Fourthly, this woman he brings from abroad.
She may have customs, manners, and a religion.
She could corrupt the husband and his children.
And in them there is goodness and righteousness, without a doubt.
That is why we discourage exaggeration in dowries.
And we say, the most blessed marriage is the one with the least burden. Likewise, if he is rejected.
The guardian of the woman is someone who is suitable for her in character and religion.
And no suitor more deserving than him has come forward.
He would be deceiving her and betraying his trust.
Because the guardian of affairs.
And he is Muhammad ﷺ, who has general authority over his umma in guidance and instruction, says: Marry off.
And this contradicts.
As for when he chooses for his ward, whether a daughter, sister, or someone else.
If he chooses for her someone who does not pray, then this, and we seek refuge with Allah,
he has made a great mistake, because the one who does not pray is not allowed to be married off.
No matter how he is in character, or how much wealth he has, or how beautiful he is.
He is absolutely not allowed to marry her off, and if he already has a wife, the marriage must be annulled.
If he abandons the prayer, because if he abandons the prayer, he is a disbeliever who has left the religion of Allah.
And Allah the Exalted said: Do not return them to the disbelievers; they are not lawful for them.
Nor are they lawful for them.
Likewise, if a person chooses a wicked man for his female ward.
Bad character.
He is deceitful.
And how many women there are
who complain about this issue.
They are married off to those who are not suitable.
So evil, affliction, and misery occur.
We ask Allah to guide everyone. Yes. This. is diversity.
If the girl does not choose this, it is clear that she.
The matter is up to him. But if she sees that the man has a previous wife.
Is it permissible for her guardian to prevent her?
In fact, the scholars said that if the father prevents his daughter from a suitable suitor.
And he repeats this, he becomes sinful and is not fit for guardianship.
The guardianship is taken away from him and given to the next in line.
