Peace and mercy and blessings of Allah be upon you.
All praise is due to Allah, Lord of the worlds, and may peace and blessings be upon His trustworthy Messenger. To proceed.
We always recite the words of Allah, the Blessed and Exalted: Indeed, the most honored of you in the sight of Allah.
Is the one with the most taqwa. And it is the saying of the Prophet ﷺ: Whoever is slowed down by his deeds will not be hastened forward by
his lineage.
Some people boast about their lineage over others.
And this is a serious mistake.
Because a person's lineage is not something he has any merit in.
Rather, this is a favor from Allah, the Blessed and Exalted, so a person should praise Allah for it, not boast about it.
Boasting about lineage, attacking others' ancestry, and wailing are from the practices of ignorance.
There is nothing wrong with informing people about one's lineage, but not boasting over others.
About that, nor should he attack others' ancestry.
Rather, this is actually among the things that are forbidden, as the Prophet ﷺ said when he forbade arrogance.
Then he said in its definition: it is rejecting the truth and belittling people.
Rejecting the truth means denying it, and belittling people means looking down on them and seeing oneself as above them.
But that is not the case.
Taqwa is the standard with Allah, there is no superiority of an Arab over a non-Arab except by taqwa, so it is not permissible for us to boast about our lineage.
We can inform people about our lineage, that's fine, but we should not boast about it over others, insult them, belittle them, or look down on them under the pretext that we have lineage and they do not.
We do not forget, rather we praise Allah, the Blessed and Exalted, and we adhere to the straight path. Yahya ibn Ma'in says,
We sat with Ahmad, meaning Imam Ahmad ibn Hanbal, many times, and we never heard him boast to us that he was an Arab.
May Allah have mercy on Imam Ahmad, and have mercy on me and on you, and grant us all success in what He loves.
