Alright, our brother Abu Abd al-Malik asked: regarding the concept of backbiting, is it limited to matters of evil?
Or is it, for example, mentioning some situations that a person brings up even if they are not honorable in reality. As for backbiting, it is called backbiting because the person being spoken about is absent.
So if he is absent, it is said that so-and-so is being spoken about by so-and-so, this is from the linguistic side, but in the legal terminology.
It is called backbiting when you mention your brother with something he dislikes, not with something he likes. So if you praise him in a gathering, it is not called backbiting.
And Allah the Mighty and Majestic has forbidden it, and it is one of the major sins. If he dislikes praise, we say: he dislikes it in such a matter if it is true praise.
If it is true praise, then if it is true praise, every person has his own level of piety. As for this matter, the sharia has not forbidden this.
But if the praise is seen as unfair or something like that, then we say at that point it is not allowed for a person to say it, and he is sinful for it, because the one being praised dislikes such a thing.
