She also asks, Shaykh, about leaving the Quran radio on while sleeping.
This applies to recorders, as well as broadcasts on television, or also on satellite channels or on the radio.
Or also on programmed devices, or also on mobile phones, for example, some people have their phone running, or also in their house.
We say: Does this have an effect in terms of filling the house with the remembrance of Allah the Mighty and Majestic, or also in driving away the jinn? We say: these things in themselves.
We say that reciting the Quran and listening to it, the Sharia has mentioned a number of benefits in this, among them:
That a person remembers, that a person remembers Allah the Mighty and Majestic and reflects on these meanings. We say: this purpose is achieved in this.
On the television or on the radio. As for the purpose of protecting the house or protecting the workplace, for example.
The children and offspring, we say what appears is that there is no effect in this, that there is no effect in this.
And likewise, we also say that this is not legislated, and that actions like these do not benefit a person.
From several aspects. The first aspect is that it is an inanimate object that speaks, so for example, there is no intention, and there is no purpose in that.
Or something similar. That is why, for example, you find some radio stations play a recited mushaf, then after that a word, then after that, for example, sounds, then after that a word, and so on.
Then after that, the Quran comes back again, so there is no intention at all in choosing the soera, nor in the purpose of it, and the other matter.
Such behavior may involve a kind of disrespect towards the Quran.
For example, you find people talking loudly, chatting, and laughing while the Quran is playing. Unfortunately, this is also seen in the actions of some people: when they leave their house, they turn on the Quran.
And if they are present, they do not play the Quran, as if they want it to bring blessings to their home in their absence, but when they are there, they neither read the Quran nor play it. This is a kind of neglect. Also, some people think that this action
of playing the Quran on the radio and the like is enough for them instead of reading the Quran, remembering Allah the Mighty and Majestic, and reflecting on it.
This also makes them less interested in reflection and contemplation. But we say: does this mean a person should never turn on the radio?
Or, for example, the television on the Quran, or play it on the phone at all times? We say no. We mentioned that among the purposes for which the Quran is listened to.
Reflecting and contemplating, as well as recalling what has been memorized or similar things, we say that this intention is good, that a person turns on the radio.
For the Quran, so if he passes by it, he recites along or reflects on the verse being recited or something similar, this is one of the good intentions.
Good and praiseworthy, but if a person does it just to accumulate, not caring about the Quran, then the intended benefit is not achieved, and Allah knows best.
