This is regarding the wife.

Does she have to serve her husband in her house or his house?

The correct view is that the wife must obey.

The wife, the woman must obey her husband.

And part of obedience is to do what he commands her to do, this is the basic principle.

Obedience is obligatory, but obedience in a specific matter, as for making it required every day, for example.

Cooking, washing, sweeping, organizing, and so on—this has details according to the scholars.

Most scholars say that the woman,

her situation in her family's house is considered.

For example, if the woman

is of noble status, from a respected family, and she had servants,

in her family's house she was served, then in her husband's house she serves.

The basic principle is that this is a right for the wife, that the husband should provide someone to serve her.

Just as she was served in her family's house, she should be served in my house.

Her husband, this is the basic principle. They say: except if the husband is unable to do that, if he cannot bring her a servant. But if he is able, then it is required.

In that case, the husband must bring her someone to serve her, because he married her to establish a lawful relationship.

And Allah provides them with children, and they both raise these children. This is what is required from the wife.

As for cooking, washing, sweeping, sewing clothes, and ironing clothes, this is not obligatory for her. If she does it.

This is kindness from her. This is the view of the majority of scholars: she is not required to do any of that, and it is only obligatory for the husband, if he is able, to provide for her.

Someone to serve her. The second opinion, held by some scholars, is that her situation in her family's house should be considered; this is the view chosen by Ibn al-Qayyim.

If she was served in her family's house, she should be served in her husband's house. If she used to serve in her family's house, she should serve in her husband's house, like the women of the past.

Meaning our mothers and grandmothers, they used to serve.

In their homes, for example, or with their families, so they would serve in their husband's house.

But our daughters nowadays, for example, only a few of them serve, praise be to Allah, it's not better and so on, so they do not serve in their family's house, and therefore they do not serve in their husband's house, and the husband must provide for her.

Okay, this is religion. The third opinion is that it is obligatory for her.

That she must serve in general, but the correct view is the opinion of the majority.

That she is not required to do that, rather it is the husband's duty to provide someone to serve her. But still, obedience is obligatory, meaning if one day he says to her: cook for us today, for example.

Or I want you to make me tea, or arrange the bed, she must obey him. But the point is, this should not be every day, for example.

Every day your job is to be the cook, for example, no, this is not required.
