It is not permissible to recite the Quran over the deceased. There is a narration: Recite Surah Yasin over your deceased.
And this narration is weak, though some scholars have considered it good.
Apparently, it is not established, but some scholars have considered it good, and some said: Recite Surah Yasin over your deceased, not those who have already died, but those who are dying.
Meaning, those who are near death as it appears, and the knowledge is with Allah the Blessed and Exalted. He said: those who are on the verge of death as it is said, these are the ones it is recited over.
Surah Yasin, according to the narration.
As for reciting after the person has died—may Allah reward you, you reminded us—after the person has died, I used to attend, but praise be to Allah, now I think the practice has stopped, maybe when we were young.
He had neighbors who had a death in the family. I remember we went in and they gave each of us a part.
Read a part of the Quran and dedicate its reward to the deceased.
Of course, some of us were without wudu, we were young guys, some of us without wudu, some just sitting and flipping through, pretending to read, just fooling them, okay.
And some read without intention, because they didn't feel like it, it was forced, obligatory. All of this is not correct, it's wrong.
This is wrong, meaning completing the Quran for the deceased, if someone wants to complete it for the deceased and dedicate the reward, it should come from the heart, not just in front of people.
Between me and my Lord, I go home, read some verses from the Quran, and say: O Allah, make its reward for so-and-so, the deceased. But gathering to complete the Quran for the dead, all of this is from bid'a.
