One of the brothers asks: Is it true that whoever prays qiyam al-layl with witr does not pray the duha prayer, sheikh? He says: since they attribute this action to the Prophet ﷺ, and is it from his sunnah?

That he does not pray the duha prayer. Yes, whoever prays at night. Yes, and in Sahih Muslim there is a narration from Aisha, may Allah be pleased with her, that she said: The Prophet, peace be upon him, if he missed his portion of the night, he would pray twelve rak'ahs during the day.

Since the Prophet used to pray eleven rak'ahs at night, if he missed them, he would pray ten rak'ahs during the day, meaning at duha time.

From this, it was understood that whoever prays at night, that suffices him.

From the duha prayer, but we find that the Prophet, peace be upon him, generally recommended the duha prayer in a number of narrations.

As in the narration of Abu Huraira, where he said: My khalil advised me with three things, and he mentioned among them two rak'ahs of duha, so this wording came in a general sense.

The Prophet ﷺ continued to pray the duha prayer, and this is also mentioned in hadiths.

This indicates that performing it is not connected to performing the night prayer, but rather, we say the opposite: if a person misses the night prayer, the duha prayer becomes more emphasized for him.

The duha prayer becomes more emphasized for him; it is not said the opposite, that if a person prays at night, he does not pray the duha prayer.

Rather, we say if he misses the night prayer, then he should pray the duha prayer; it becomes more emphasized for him, as is apparent from the hadith of Aisha.

If his night prayer was three units, then he prays four in the duha; if his night prayer was one unit, he prays two; if his night prayer was five, he prays six.

If it was seven, he prays eight; if it was nine, he prays ten; and if it was eleven, this is what the Prophet ﷺ mostly did.

If he misses it, then he should pray ten units during the forenoon, as mentioned in the hadith of Aisha, and Allah knows best. May Allah reward you, sheikh.
