Peace and mercy and blessings of Allah be upon you. May Allah welcome you and honor you, and welcome to all of you.
Some people bring up a statement that says.
The Messenger of Allah ﷺ permitted mut'ah and it was Umar who forbade it, and this is a lie, a fabrication, and a false accusation.
Our religion is not taken from Umar, may Allah be pleased with him.
Rather, Umar is a follower; our religion is.
Allah said, the Messenger said, and a matter that is not legislated.
May Allah be pleased with him, rather he is a follower as we said.
And it is not possible that Allah would permit something and Umar would forbid it.
Or that the Prophet ﷺ would permit something and Umar would forbid it.
Or the opposite, this is not possible, neither Umar nor anyone else, may Allah be pleased with them all.
Not Umar, nor Abu Bakr, nor Uthman, nor Ali, nor Talha, nor Zubair, nor Mu'adh, nor Ubayy, nor any of the Companions of the Prophet ﷺ, rather they were the most committed to following.
The Prophet ﷺ.
So this is a lie about Umar, that he prohibited mut'ah. Some narrate the hadith saying: The Messenger of Allah permitted mut'ah and I prohibit it. This is a lie about Umar, it was never proven.
Umar only prohibited what the Messenger of Allah ﷺ prohibited.
And when he forbade mut'ah with women, he said: I will stone anyone who practices it unless he brings me two witnesses.
That the Messenger of Allah ﷺ permitted it after prohibiting it. So who prohibited it?
The Messenger of Allah ﷺ, and there are many hadith about this.
Imam Muslim narrated a large number of these hadith from Ali, from Abu Huraira, from Jabir.
From Jabir ibn Abdullah, Jabir ibn Samurah, there are many narrations reported by Salamah, reported by the Companions of the Prophet ﷺ, all of them stating the prohibition of mut'ah.
So, attributing the prohibition of mut'ah to Umar is not permissible.
Umar did not prohibit mut'ah; rather, it was prohibited by the Messenger of Allah ﷺ by the command of Allah, the Exalted, and he said: It is forbidden until the Day of Judgment.
And this is an authentic narration established from the Prophet ﷺ. Allah knows best. May Allah send prayers and peace and blessings upon our Prophet Muhammad.
