Is waswasa only from the shaytan, or can it come from other sources as well?
As for waswasa, it can come from the shaytan, from the shayatin among humans and jinn, and it can also come from the self.
That is why Allah, the Exalted, called the self "commanding." Indeed, the self is ever commanding to evil, commanding to evil from its own whispers.
And also from what pushes a person through its temptations, so that a person
might, for example, proceed to do something haram, or the haram might be presented to him in a way that makes it seem appealing, and it is presented so often that the self absorbs it.
So when the self absorbs that, it then becomes easy for it to proceed, and this is similar to fuel that is made in a machine until, when it is full, then it
It turns towards or approaches, and its state is different from others. That is why we talk about the issue of passing thoughts.
The passing thoughts that come may be from the soul, since Allah, the Mighty and Majestic, has tested the human being with them to grant him reward if he opposes them.
As for what comes, for example, from the whispers that are external to him, we say that they are from the devils among humans and the devils among jinn, as in the soera.
An-Nas: from the evil of the retreating whisperer, who whispers in the hearts of people, from among jinn and humans.
