He said, we will clarify the Maliki school’s position on this.
Going down on the knees for sujud.
What is well-known among us is that going down,
descending into sujud should be by placing the hands first. This is an issue with well-known disagreement among the scholars, but the stronger opinion is this school.
That it is recommended to place the hands before the knees.
The hadith that came regarding this, the Prophet ﷺ, was the hadith of Wa'il ibn Hujr, and the hadith forbidding imitating.
Imitating the way a camel sits.
People disagreed: what does the camel put down first? Does it put down its hands or its knees? Everyone sees the camel and everyone says something.
He does not put down his hands, he puts down his knees, even though we have a clear hadith, and the narration of Wa'il ibn Hujr, in which the Prophet ﷺ.
He said: None of you should sit as a camel sits, but let him put down his hands before his knees.
Ibn al-Qayyim, may Allah have mercy on him, commented on this hadith: He reversed it on the narrator.
And the Prophet ﷺ said: Let him put down his knees before his hands, but the narrator was mistaken and reversed the hadith. In reality, this is something amazing from Ibn al-Qayyim.
Because accusing a trustworthy person without evidence means that, in the end, our matter comes down to supporting the opinion by doubting the trustworthy person.
Without evidence for it, why did he say that? Because he saw that.
If someone, when going down to sujud, puts his hands before his knees, he has done as the camel does.
And he thought that the camel's knees, that these front legs of the camel are its hands, understood? But.
The front legs of the camel are its knees, they are its knees because its knees.
Four-legged animals have their knees in their front legs, is this understood? Although some scholars.
Among them is our sheikh Muhammad al-Hasan al-Dedew al-Shanqiti, may Allah protect him, who believes that this hadith did not address this.
No, that is not what is meant here by "falling down on.."
Neither putting the hands first nor the knees first is meant; rather, what is meant is that a person sits down and descends in that manner.
Just as a camel descends and you hear and feel the ground shake, meaning to descend with calmness. Now, many people, when they descend, for example, and this may be.
It happens more when descending on the knees than when descending on the hands. If he descends, it means he strikes the ground with his knees.
So the sheikh said: This is what is forbidden, to imitate the camel in this.
In this lowering, in which he lowers himself.
In his kneeling, and if you go down, whether you put your knees or your hands first, with calmness and you perform it, then you have not resembled the camel.
