And it is the armor, and we said the armor is the shirt.
That covers her, envelops her, and covers her feet.
And the khimar that covers her head and neck so that only her face appears, this.
This is the 'awrah of a woman in prayer, and this is the view of the majority.
That the woman covers her entire body.
Except her face and hands in prayer, she does not cover them.
But they differed regarding the feet if they appear during prayer.
And this is something that has become common among women today.
That they do not cover their feet during prayer.
You have heard that the majority opinion is that the feet must be covered.
So if they appear or are not covered, Malik, may Allah have mercy on him, said:
She must repeat it. Whoever does not cover her feet in prayer must repeat it, but he said: she repeats it within the time.
She repeats it within the time, but if the time passes, the time has ended.
Then her prayer has been extended and she does not have to repeat it.
This is the statement of Malik, may Allah have mercy on him, in what is well-known from him, and he indicated this.
Shaykh Ibn Ashir, may Allah have mercy on him, when he said.
And except for the face and hands of the free woman.
It must be covered as with the awrah, but if the chest, hair, or limbs are exposed, she repeats it within the prescribed time.
And except for your face, for the free woman, it must be covered.
Except for the face and the hands, covering is required.
Just like with the 'awrah, this is her 'awrah in prayer, and it is also her 'awrah outside of it, just like with the 'awrah.
And the Malikis rely on the statement of our Lord, the Exalted.
And they should not display their adornment except what is apparent of it. Their reliance here is on the tafsir of Ibn Abbas when he said: what is apparent is the face and the hands.
And except for your face, for the free woman, it must be covered in prayer, just as it must be covered for the 'awrah, and just as the 'awrah is her 'awrah outside of prayer, it is her 'awrah inside it.
But if something is uncovered, like the chest, the hair, or a part of the body. But if the chest, hair, or a part is uncovered.
She repeats the prayer within the prescribed time, but if the time has passed, she does not have to repeat it.
The Hanafis said it is not required for the woman.
To cover her feet in prayer, and she is not required to do so.
According to them, what must be covered by the woman in prayer is her entire body except her face, her hands, and her feet.
In that case, they are not included with us at all in this issue.
As for the Shafi'is and Hanbalis, if any part of her feet becomes visible, she must repeat the prayer.
Whether during the time or after, she must always repeat it. They ruled that her prayer is invalid if she does not cover her feet, and we always say in such cases,
we love for women to take the safer opinion, to be cautious with their religion and their prayer, because it is the first thing they will be asked about when they stand before their Lord.
Many times, taking the safer opinion
involves strictness, hardship, difficulty, and burden.
But in these matters, how easy it is.
And how much more protective it is for the religion, and how much it removes one from the burden of disagreement.
So the greatest incapacity for a woman is to hear this, and to know that.
Two great groups among the scholars of this umma, the Shafi'is and the Hanbalis, rule that her prayer is invalid, yet she is able to cover her feet and still does not cover them.
