Honorable Sheikh, what is the awrah of a woman in front of her mahrams? And does the back or chest count as part of the awrah or not? Please clarify, may Allah reward you.
First, may Allah bless you, we must know.
There is a difference between saying "what is the awrah" and saying "what is the clothing that is prescribed for a woman to wear."
So that there is no confusion between the two matters.
The clothing that is prescribed for a woman to wear should be covering.
It should cover the entire body.
Except for the head, hands, and feet when it comes to her mahrams.
This is the well-known view. As for the issue of 'awrah, the 'awrah.
For a woman with another woman is like the 'awrah of a man with another man.
Meaning, it is between the navel and the knee. But this does not mean that a woman can go out among women wearing only trousers from the knee to the navel—no one says this.
Anyone who says this is misguided.
But the meaning is, if a woman is wearing full, covering clothes.
And she needed to uncover her arms.
For work, or because of an illness in the arm, or something similar, or if she wants to.
To breastfeed her child in front of women, and she uncovered her chest in front of women, there is no problem.
So there is a difference between the 'awrah and the prescribed clothing.
What is prescribed for women is that their clothing should be covering.
And it is permissible for her to uncover her head and face.
Her neck and her hands.
And even for herding, feeding, and giving them water at their place.
But that does not mean we say she can wear a short garment in front of her mahrams, no, that's something else. But if, for example,
She lifts her garment out of necessity and her mahrams are present, and her leg becomes exposed, then there is no problem.
