May Allah reward you with goodness. Please inform us about the intention for fasting.
I have heard a narration whose meaning says,
Whoever does not make the intention for fasting at night, his fasting is not valid.
So how should the intention be made? Is it in the heart or by saying it out loud? And what is the ruling for someone who forgets the intention at night?
And he makes the intention at suhoor, is the fasting valid for someone who wakes up exactly at the time of the fajr adhan?
And he did not get a chance for suhoor, but only rinsed his mouth and fasted, is that valid if it is in Ramadan, or a voluntary fast, or a fast due to a vow? May Allah reward you with goodness.
The meaning of the hadith is that he intends at night, even if he only intends close to fajr. Whenever he makes the intention, it is considered that he spent the night with it.
So if he intends at the end of the night, or in the middle of the night, or at the beginning of the night that he will fast tomorrow, then he has made the intention.
And all of this is if it is an obligatory fast, but if the fasting is voluntary.
Then it is required to make that intention at night, so if he intends during the day before eating, before doing anything that breaks the fast.
There is no problem in making the intention during the day.
Because it is established in Sahih Muslim from Aisha, may Allah be pleased with her.
The Prophet ﷺ entered upon Aisha and said: Do you have anything? She said: No. He said: Then I am fasting.
From the middle of the day ﷺ. So if a person wakes up and has not eaten or drunk or done anything else, and then intends to fast during the day, there is no problem.
He will have the fast recorded for him from the moment he intends it. He will have the reward of the fasting person from the moment he intends it. This is for voluntary fasts. As for Ramadan,
and for vows, expiations, and making up Ramadan, the intention must be made at night.
Because it is obligatory for him to fast the entire day.
And this cannot be achieved except with the intention made before the day begins. May Allah reward you with good.
