Abdul Rahman Al-Ahwaz says: He works in agriculture, he has debts, everything he used in farming he took on credit.
What should he do regarding zakat?
So, the question is different, how exactly? He means all the tools he took, whether he took them as loans, and he sowed the seeds and planted.
How does he pay zakat on his crops? Is zakat obligatory for him? First, let's talk about the issue of crops, and it seems he mentioned that they are watered.
Allah, the Mighty and Majestic, says in the Noble Book: "And give its due on the day of its harvest." What is meant is that at the time of harvesting and gathering, he must give out.
And this is conditioned by the minimum amount set by the Lawgiver.
This means there is no charity due on less than five wasq.
And we say regarding the amount that must be given, what is mentioned in the authentic narration from Abdullah ibn Umar.
That the Prophet ﷺ said: As for what is watered by rain or natural springs, a tenth is due, and what is irrigated by manual effort, half of a tenth is due.
So we say, if the watering is done by a river or also from what is drunk from the ground, as in some areas the land is moist and does not need irrigation because of the proximity of water.
Or dew or other sources, it absorbs water and does not need irrigation, then in that case we say a tenth is due, a tenth is given. But if it is irrigated by manual effort, such as with pumps.
Or by drip irrigation, and what costs a person to establish and operate, and also to work with it.
Or workers who irrigate, for example, using machines or manual watering or other means, in that case we say that half of one-tenth is due.
As for the question about tools, for example plows, or if the land is rented, and also what relates to labor or other things, we say that these things
do not change anything about zakat, and he must pay zakat and settle debts from what.
from what remains, from what is related to it, because these tools are not subject to zakat.
There is no zakat on these tools; because if they were tools that a person trades with,
like the case of a person, for example, who has money, he borrowed that money from the two currencies, he borrowed one hundred thousand.
Then he traded with it. We say there is no zakat on it until it exceeds one hundred thousand. Whatever is above that, he pays zakat on it. And Allah knows best.
