He says: Is it permissible, if a man lies to his wife and she says: Swear, is it allowed for him to swear? Yes, it is allowed.
It is allowed for him to swear. Umar ibn al-Khattab, may Allah be pleased with him, when it came to him.
A man came to him, this man came about his wife and said to her: Do you love me?
She said: I do not love you. He said: Say by Allah you love me, I ask you by Allah.
That you are truthful with me. Do you love me? No, as long as you have asked me by Allah, no, by Allah, I do not love you. Let me lie to keep things going.
Why do you ask me by Allah? She said: Now that you have asked me by Allah, no, by Allah, I do not love you.
So he went to Umar to complain, saying: My wife doesn't love me, what should I do? Should I divorce her, just leave her like this?
So Umar called her and said: What's wrong with you?
She said: O Commander of the Faithful, he told me to ask you by Allah, or should I lie?
He said: Yes, lie. Yes, lie. Do all homes really stand on love?
Rather, they stand on Islam and good treatment. So whatever lying is allowed in, swearing by Allah is also allowed in.
Whatever lying is allowed in, swearing by Allah is also allowed in. For example, we said lying is allowed in three cases: in war.
And in reconciliation between people, and between spouses, as long as lying is allowed, swearing an oath on it is also allowed.
It is allowed to swear a false oath in war, it is allowed to swear a false oath between spouses, it is allowed to swear a false oath in reconciliation between people, there is no problem with that, inshaAllah the Exalted.
There is no expiation required, it is allowed. How? Give expiation, to poor and needy people.
