Honorable sheikh, some people have recently become accustomed, when a woman's husband dies, even during the four months and ten days known as the mourning period.
Her relatives, for example, hold a feast, sometimes the son, sometimes the sister, and sometimes, for example.
So what is the ruling on this action, and if it is related to maintaining ties, what is the ruling on accepting the invitation to attend this?
What appears to me, inshaAllah, is that there is nothing wrong with it.
This is something customary, and they do not do it as an act of worship.
Unlike the women of the pre-Islamic era, the women of that time, when the year was completed, and the women at that time were in ignorance.
They would excuse themselves for a whole year.
And she would stay in the ugliest house.
And she would not touch water.
Even if she menstruated, she would not touch water or wash.
So she would remain with a foul, unpleasant smell.
And when she went out after a full year.
She would take a piece of dung and throw it.
She says, as if every time it passed by her, it became easier for her.
Throwing this dung.
As the Prophet ﷺ said: One of you used to throw the dung after a full year.
