The Prophet ﷺ said: A woman should not travel without a mahram for a day and a night, or as he ﷺ said.

So the understanding from the hadith is that if it is less than that, it is allowed for her to travel less than a day and a night without a mahram, but for a day and a night or more, there is a difference of opinion.

That is why the scholars took the general meaning.

He said: Since a day and a night, or three days, were mentioned, it is understood that the restriction is not obligatory.
