He is asking about migrating to Western countries to seek work, right?
First, let's give migration its value and importance.
The Prophet ﷺ says: Migration does not end.
Until repentance ends, and repentance does not end until the sun rises from the west.
Migration is only from the lands of disbelief to the lands of Islam.
This is migration. But a man who leaves the lands of Islam to go to the lands of disbelief, do we call that migration?
That is not hijra, that is living abroad. Say living abroad.
Okay, and it is not hijra, or travel, or living.
Do not give hijra its value.
When the Prophet ﷺ says: So he commanded them to make hijra.
He did not say there is no hijra after the conquest.
When Allah, the Blessed and Exalted, says: Indeed, those whom the angels take while they wrong themselves, the angels say: What were you doing? They say: We were oppressed in the land. The angels say: Was not the earth of Allah spacious?
So migrate within it. The word hijra is a beautiful word.
It is never allowed for us to use it for leaving the lands of Islam to the lands
of disbelief. Let's call things by their proper names. Here, we say travel.
Living in the lands of disbelief, being a stranger, is better than using the word
hijra. Agreed? Good, excellent. This is the exact answer.
Okay, as for traveling to non-Islamic countries.
For earning a livelihood, seeking provision, the scholars have mentioned.
That traveling to non-Muslim countries is allowed in four cases.
For inviting to Allah or for medical treatment.
Or for studying or for earning a livelihood.
So if it is for earning a livelihood, there is no problem, but he should not intend to live there forever.
Rather, he earns his provision, what is sufficient for him, let's say, what provides him with a dignified life, then he returns.
This is the principle. The second point is that some people travel to non-Muslim countries.
Using the excuse of freedom, and it's not about earning a living—he finds his livelihood there, but he says there's democracy there.
There is freedom there, I can insult and no one says anything to me. There, I can insult the president and no one says anything. Here, if I say the president is wrong,
I'm finished, that's how it is. There, there's freedom—but what kind of freedom is this?
Freedom that we claim, this is not real freedom. So the point is, traveling to non-Muslim countries, if it is for a need,
like what we mentioned, then there is no problem inshaAllah, but he should not intend to settle there.
