Muhammad from Saudi Arabia asks: What is the ruling on raising pigeons, and is the testimony of someone who raises them not accepted? As for raising pigeons.
There are some narrations that prohibit it, but none of them are authentic.
As for this issue, some scholars consider it a flaw, since it is a distraction, but there is no established prohibition.
It is like anything else a person raises, such as birds or other animals.
The basic ruling is that it is permissible. As for it being prohibited, we say that usually, raising pigeons distracts a person more than other animals.
Also, in terms of benefit, the material benefit from it is different from that of livestock.
Also, the return and benefit that comes from it is different and differs from others.
The amount of food in it is little, and likewise the benefit, for example from its feathers or wool or other things, is not as beneficial as others, so it tends to drain a person's wealth, and also.
It is a distraction, and based on this we say it is among the distractions, it is among the distractions, so if a person is preoccupied with it and it distracts him from obedience.
Then it is disliked, and if it distracts him from an obligatory act of worship, then it is forbidden.
So we say: the extent of this is determined by Allah, the extent to which it causes you to miss out on Allah's command, the Exalted, and what it leads to of prohibited matters. As for things that diminish one's dignity.
Things that diminish one's dignity have no set limit, and they differ from time to time and from situation to situation.
So we say, the basic principle is that it is better for a person not to concern himself with it, but rather to focus on good matters.
Among the virtuous matters, if he wants to earn money, he can enjoy it in another way, but as for prohibition, it is not haram, and Allah knows best.
