Muhammad bin Najr says: Taking a bank loan out of necessity to pay off debt.

As for bank loans, he stated that he takes a bank loan, and it appears from his words that he is referring to riba.

It is not permissible for a person to take riba, no matter what his need is.

The only exception is in cases of extreme necessity, such as when a person would die, be killed, or be destroyed, and similar situations, because riba is a grave matter.

But for someone who wants to pay off a debt, or wants to buy a house or a car, or to enjoy his life or similar things, we say it is not permissible for a person to do that.

One must consider that riba is among the greatest major sins, and it is one of the seven destructive sins, so a person should be extremely cautious about it.

And regarding debt, we say: if a person wants to repay, to repay that debt, and he truly intends it in his heart, then Allah will help him with it.

If Allah helps him in this world to repay it through his actions, then on the Day of Judgment Allah will settle it for him from his good deeds for his creditor. For this reason, the Prophet ﷺ says, as narrated in the hadith of Abu Huraira.

The correct view is: whoever takes people's money intending to repay it, Allah will repay it on his behalf.

And whoever takes it intending to waste it, Allah will destroy him. If he takes it intending to repay it, does repayment have two meanings? The first meaning is that Allah helps him by providing worldly means to repay that debt during his life.

The second meaning is that Allah, the Mighty and Majestic, will repay it for him if he was unable in this world, in the Hereafter, by pleasing his creditor, and then.

He will not be held accountable for it. That is why we say it goes back to a person's intention: if a person takes that debt and wants to fulfill it.

And things did not go as he wished, due to his bankruptcy, poverty, and need, even though he was keen.

And he was very concerned about repaying that debt, then he died after that. Allah, the Mighty and Majestic, is too generous to hold him accountable for his inability, for if Allah decrees incapacity for a servant who is eager to fulfill that repayment,

then Allah, Verheven en Hoog is Hij, will fulfill the right on behalf of His servant. Allah, the Mighty and Majestic, is merciful to His servants.
