A colleague at work told me that his financial situation is very difficult.
He lives in an annex with my family. One day, I decided to give him from my zakat.
I have blessings from Allah.
So I set aside an amount of six thousand seven hundred dinars for him, and when I met him, I gave him the amount.
I said to him, "This is zakat for you, here you go." Unfortunately, sheikh,
the good deed I was doing turned into something bad.
My colleague took the matter.
With self-respect, and he quarreled with me.
He said: Why do you give me zakat, knowing that he is in need, poor, and has many debts, and now we are in conflict.
What is the ruling on someone who does not accept zakat because of his self-respect and pride? Is it his right?
This is his right, but he accepts zakat.
He is content with his situation and so on, and he bears his right, Allah accepts zakat.
And you have two situations, the first is that you apologize to him.
Say, I'm sorry, I thought you would accept it, forgive me, and so on.
And wipe your face, and say this is the last time and I won't repeat it. Apologize to him, say sorry because he feels you wronged him, there's nothing wrong with apologizing. It's not shameful for a person to apologize.
The second situation is that if you give it to him, don't tell him it's zakat.
It's not necessary that when you give to the poor, you tell him this is it.
Zakat, give it and say this is help, this is a gift.
Without saying that this is zakat, this is better, inshaAllah ta'ala.
