About clothing of fame, what is the guideline for it, our sheikh?

Regarding clothing of fame, we say that it is when a person stands out by wearing something in a way that is not found among the people of his country.

And this can be in two ways: the first is in the color, the second is in the style, in the way of wearing it, even if the color is common.

The meaning here is that a person, for example, has a certain color, like blue or green or something else.

So, for example, a man wears this clothing and it is not known in this country.

That they wear these colors, so if that is the case, then his clothing in this color is considered clothing of fame.

The second example of this in clothing is an example where, even if the color is the same, the way it is worn is not known in that country.

So he becomes known for that and stands out from the people. For example, in a country where people usually wear shirts, they are used to shirts.

Then someone comes, for example, wearing pants or something else, and if the pants become distinctive,

compared to the people of that country in their shirts and so on, then this is forbidden.

So a person should be like everyone else. The same applies to me, and also the opposite, considering that it is considered clothing, clothing of fame.

Also, some clothes that are, for example, common among people in some African countries and the like, someone comes to countries, for example, in the Arabian Peninsula.

They do not know that clothing, then he uses that clothing.

So that a person becomes distinguished, distinguished from them, and is therefore prohibited from this aspect. What is the reason for the prohibition of wearing fame-seeking clothing in these two ways? What relates to the style and what relates to the color.

We say the reason for that, for the Prophet ﷺ prohibiting fame-seeking clothing, is so that it does not cause a person to develop arrogance within himself, for when a person becomes distinguished.

By his clothing or also by his ride, he likes to attract the attention of people.

So a person likes, when he passes through a market, that people turn to look at him, and if he comes, for example, to a place or a public square, that people turn to look at him.

This leads him to watch and anticipate the reactions of people.

If he passes among them and the like, this is among the blameworthy matters, these are blameworthy matters. Rather, what is proper—and this is what Islam encourages.

If a person wants to clarify to people, to clarify to them by speaking the truth.

To clarify as well by acting upon the truth or otherwise, even if that is in calling people, calling people to it. As for drawing attention through clothing, appearance, and the like.

And it relates to superficialities. For this reason, the Sharia came regarding reviving actions and also statements. So if a person, for example, draws people's attention.

By words so that they follow him, by words so that they follow him, so he comes and calls them to virtue, calls them to the truth, guides them, and so on. Is this considered drawing people's attention, attracting them with the truth?

By word or deed or the like. But as for clothing, it is just about a particular style, and this plants arrogance in a person, and it distinguishes them by it. Most of what relates to clothing for fame.

In this, he imitates the wealthy, he imitates the wealthy and those who are arrogant, because they like to distinguish themselves from people, while people have clothing they are accustomed to.

So he likes to stand out, for example, by color or by a certain style of clothing, so that there is class distinction, but the sharia came.

With equality among people, and if a person wants to wear what the wealthy wear, he may wear what the wealthy wear even if it is expensive, but in the same style as what people wear.

And in the color that people wear, so he wears a shirt in their style even if it is expensive.

That clothing, but if he comes with a strange color, or a strange style of clothing, like wearing African clothing in the Arabian Peninsula.

Then this is considered strange clothing, and this is what is called showing off, and for this reason the law has prohibited it, and Allah knows best. May Allah reward you, does this apply to both men and women, sheikh? It applies to both men and women. Of course, the issue of showing off.

It has rulings that differ from other rulings, in the chapters related to imitation.

And this is a blameworthy matter that can go even further, for example, when a person imitates a disbelieving nation in a country, and this imitation is a garment of fame, so both fame and imitation are combined in it.
