Isn't it time for him to be freed from his father's restraint?
Yes, I am finally freed from my father's restraint.
I am freed from my restraint.
Not even a few of them managed to escape from among their many.
Even though we used to fear the consequences of the few.
So now we should be even more fearful.
So come up with an opinion for us, if we fear that the king of Abyssinia might side with them against us.
And we have trade there, so the opinion is that we should reach them through the king of Abyssinia himself.
So we turn his heart against them. But how can we do that when we know he has treated them well and given them safety in his land? If they have opposed our religion,
then they have also opposed his religion, and he has bishops with him whom he fears to anger.
So if we were to send men from among us who are skilled in debate,
would they incite him to attack our relatives? No.
But so that he may bring them back to us, and we will take care of them.
And who is fit for this task?
Finally, your time has come, O son of Al-As.
And soon your time will come, O Sulayman. Do not rush.
My lord, the king.
My companion Amr ibn Al-As. Do not cause discord among companions. If the king shows humility, it is a favor and a virtue.
Go and enjoy yourself, you know what I like, O Umar.
Sit down, O Umar. Have you rested from the hardship of the journey?
How could I not, when I lost in the presence of the king.
Did you come as a merchant or as an emigrant, uncle?
Allah forbid that I come to you with what those men who left al-Rina came with.
So you did not enter their religion.
If I were to leave the religion of my people, I would have left it for your religion, O king.
But these are young men who left the religion of their people.
And they did not enter your religion, and they have come with an invented religion that neither we nor you know.
Is this what you told me, O Amr?
To criticize them to me? We sent to you the noblest of their people, from their fathers, uncles, and clans, so that you would return them to them.
They know them better and are more aware of what they criticized them for and reproached them about.
But they say something different.
And did you think, sir, that he would say in front of you what would shame them and condemn them?
But you have known the nobles of our people, or some of us. They have always traded in your lands, buying and selling for the good of our country and yours, and you have tested their honesty and trustworthiness.
Have they ever lied to you?
No people who come to me and settle in my land will be wronged here.
And they have chosen me over others.
And you, you are the Arabs.
We still know that the Arabs are people of protection and covenants, and a man may grant protection even to the killer of his uncle, so that no one can reach him.
So would you accept for me what you would not accept for yourselves?
Where are you, O Umar.
The nobles of our people chose you before these people chose you.
Until all that trade and affection developed between them and you.
So is it just and fair, my master, that our fathers paved the way, and then these people who criticized their fathers and belittled their wisdom come?
They enjoy what their fathers prepared, while accusing them of disbelief and ignorance.
No, by Allah, I will not send them back to you until I call them with you and ask them.
About what you say regarding me? No, by Allah, do not do that, my master.
And why not? Especially since you say the truth.
Are you testing my honesty with them, O king, and putting me on equal footing with them?
Are they not your relatives? So where is the difference in status?
Every flour has its bran, and these are the bran of their people.
No, by my Lord, not until argument is met with argument.
If they are as you describe, I will hand them over to you.
And if they are not as you say, I will protect them from you and treat them well as long as they live among me.
He is Amr ibn al-As, the most cunning of the cunning. Falsehood has no argument against the truth.
Even if it is just a greeting. What will we say to the man tomorrow if we go to him?
By Allah, as it is said, we have left the religion of our people and have not entered the religion of the Negus.
We say, by Allah, we do not know, and our Prophet has not commanded us.
Whatever happens in that, we will not lie.
And we will not be evasive.
You are the cousin of our Messenger, Ja'far, so step forward and speak tomorrow.
My lord, the king. Peace be upon you, O king.
You already know what your companion says about you.
So what is this religion that you have left your people for?
And you have not entered my religion, nor the religion of any of these other faiths.
O king.
We were a people of ignorance, worshipping idols.
We ate dead animals, committed immoral acts, severed family ties, and mistreated our neighbors.
The strong among us would consume the weak.
We remained like that until Allah sent us a Messenger from among ourselves.
We knew his lineage, his truthfulness, his trustworthiness, and his chastity.
He called us to Allah, to worship Him and to affirm His oneness.
He united us in obedience to Him, and we renounce what we and our fathers used to worship besides Him, of stones and idols.
He commanded us to speak the truth and to fulfill amana.
Maintaining family ties.
Maintaining family ties, O king, treating neighbors well, and refraining from forbidden acts and bloodshed.
He forbade us from immorality, false speech, consuming the wealth of orphans, and slandering chaste women.
He commanded us to worship Allah alone.
We do not associate anything with Him.
So we believed him, had iman in him, and followed him in what he brought from Allah.
Then our people turned against us, tortured us, and tried to make us abandon our religion to return to worshipping idols.
When they overpowered us, wronged us, and made things difficult for us,
we left for your land, chose you over others, and sought your protection.
We hope that we will not be wronged by you, O king.
Do you have anything of what he brought from Allah?
O Allah, yes.
Then recite to him.
In the name of Allah, the Most Merciful, the Most Compassionate.
O Zakariya, We give you glad tidings of a boy whose name will be Yahya.
We have not given this name to anyone before him.
He said, My Lord, how can I have a boy when my wife is barren and I have reached extreme old age?
He said, "So it will be." Your Lord said, "It is easy for Me."
And I created you before, when you were nothing.
He said, "My Lord, give me a sign."
He said, "Your sign is that you will not speak to people for three nights, while being sound."
So he came out to his people from the prayer chamber and signaled to them.
To glorify Allah morning and evening.
O Yahya, hold firmly to the Scripture, and We gave him wisdom while he was still a child.
And compassion from Us, and purity, and he was devout.
And dutiful to his parents, and he was not arrogant or disobedient.
And peace be upon him the day he was born.
And the day he dies, and the day he will be raised alive.
Indeed, this.
What Isa brought does not come from the same source.
Go.
By Allah, I will not hand over even a louse of anyone.
And you hardly matter to me.
This is foolishness, O Umar.
I used to think you had sound judgment. No, by the One who sent down the Gospel.
Your mind hasn't gone, but you are gambling. Your people have chosen you for this task, uncle.
Because they knew your intelligence, your cleverness, the strength of your argument, and your patience in debate, so do not disappoint our hopes in you.
One more round, O king, just one more round before you make your decision.
Woe to you, don't give up! Why didn't you say everything you had today?
I am only like other people; when their family ties with us were mentioned, my heart softened toward them.
Then I saw your face affected.
So I knew that even if I brought you the best argument,
you would not listen to me while you were in that state.
But give me until tomorrow, and I will come to you with something that will uproot their very foundation. Woe to Ibn al-As, what more does he want?
And we thought he was finished, and we were finished. Tomorrow we will know.
And now, O Umar, these sons of your people have gathered again.
So what do you have today?
O king, they say something tremendous about 'Isa.
So ask them about what they say regarding him.
You have heard what your companion said.
So answer.
By Allah, we only say about him what our Prophet brought to us.
He is the servant of Allah, His Messenger, His spirit, and His word.
He cast it to Mary, the pure virgin.
By Allah, I have not said anything about Jesus son of Mary except what I have said.
This is the stick.
Go, you are safe in my land.
Whoever preceded you is your rival. Whoever preceded you is your rival.
I would not like to have a mountain of gold, and that I.
I have harmed one of you. Return this gift to him.
I have no need for it.
By Allah, Allah did not take a bribe from me.
When He returned my kingdom to me, so should I take a bribe in it?
And people did not obey Him in it, so should I obey them in it?
O king, you have heard from us what we believe about Isa, son of Maryam.
Why don't you ask him now what he believes about him? You are not of the religion of these people.
Nor of my religion.
Go ahead.
Take your revenge on me as you wish, for you are not the one who went through what I went through, and I hear the people saying.
They say every day that Ibn al-Asi will soon bring them to us in chains, and if Ibn al-Asi wanted to drag a whale from the sea to Mecca, he would do it.
Didn't I tell you one day that half of cleverness is to use it in the right place.
Our elders were not fair when they sent me to pursue the people while they revere what the Negus reveres.
Isa and his mother, and Zakariya and Yahya.
Both sides deny idol worship, so where do I stand in all of this?
Wasn't the camel I offered you enough?
So you would support me in that difficult situation?
'Ayyash. Salama.
How did Abu al-Hakam release you both?
My mother is still upset with him since he imprisoned me with Salama. Whenever she sees him, she cries, mourns, and slaps her cheeks, until he felt sorry for her and released me with Salama. Abu al-Hakam feels compassion for someone.
He loves his mother despite everything, and he was sure we would not migrate to Abyssinia after the migration stopped, and he made us swear oaths and promises.
How happy I am with both of you.
And here are the two sons of Suhail ibn Amr.
The same thing happened to Hammam, Abu Hammam, as happened to us from our brother Abu al-Hasan. Abu Jandal.
Peace be upon you. And upon you be peace. Welcome, Abdullah. Shall we make tawaf together and pray?
We will, inshaAllah, then we will hurry to the Messenger of Allah, for he will soon come and pray, so we will stand before him.
What more do you want? This matter has entered its seventh year.
And you know that Muhammad is the root of this affliction.
And as long as he is alive among you.
By Allah, you will not enjoy your lives.
So if we kill him, this matter will be over.
And let Hashim try to fight you all.
While you are more united, with more wealth, people, and support.
Yes, they are preventing him now.
So if we wait for him and kill him, I don't think they will risk their lives.
Their wise one says: We did not neglect our companion while he was alive.
And we have done our duty in protecting him, but the people reached him while we were unaware, so now what?
And after his death, all of us dying will not bring him back to us. So what is the point, O sons of Abdul Muttalib?
O Banu Hashim, you know what the people are plotting against my nephew.
They have made up their minds and are determined this time.
I no longer feel safe for him to stay in his house after today.
This is the valley of Hashim, it is more secure and farther from their reach. We will bring Muhammad into it and stay with him.
We will guard him, protect him, and defend him.
Until Allah decides between us and our people.
So whoever among you is not upon the religion of Muhammad, let him do it out of loyalty to blood and kinship, and so that he will never be shamed for it.
Whoever wishes to stand with me on this opinion, then that is excellent, and whoever wishes to turn away from me, let him do so now.
He will not abandon us when things get tough. Rather, we will stay with you and protect our companion.
This is good, and I will sacrifice myself and my family, and the people will leave me.
The people, for the sake of Muhammad.
I am not with them, I did not enter with them into the valley.
I am, I am with you, I support al-Lat and al-Uzza, and I support you.
We have seen that from you, O Abu Mu'tib.
And I will not carry for them a bunch of dates even if they perish.
You have not been kind to us, O Abu Lahab.
By Allah, that is true kindness.
I wish all my opponents were like him, and none of my supporters were like him.
I have supported you both, haven't I?
Perhaps you are both pleased and treat me well as I have treated you well.
They wanted something, and we wanted something else.
They wanted to prevent anyone from reaching Muhammad in that valley.
So we will turn the shield against them.
Rather, we are the ones preventing people from entering upon them.
And how is that? We make a pact among ourselves and agree firmly.
And we write a document about it and hang it on the Kaaba.
That we do not sit with Banu Hashim, nor trade with them, nor marry into them, nor let them marry into us.
And we do not sell them anything, nor buy from them, nor allow any means of livelihood to reach them, nor accept any reconciliation from them.
And we do not feel any compassion for them, nor mix with them, nor speak to them, nor sit with them, nor enter their homes.
Until they hand over Muhammad.
When people go to their beds, let Muhammad come to his bed, where anyone who wants to plot against him or harm him can see him.
Then when the people fall asleep, move him to another place, for that is safer for him.
We will do that, Abu Talib.
We will. And look at the people's food supplies and gather them, then divide from them for each person according to his need and the need of his family.
And give priority to the weak and those who have children.
For we do not know how long this situation will last, or whether some of our companions or the companions of Muhammad will be able to bring us any food.
Quraysh has set up a strong guard at the entrances and exits of the valley.
Woe to Quraysh for what they have done to us. The Messenger of Allah is calling them to maintain family ties, while they are cutting them off.
If it were not that the Messenger of Allah had forbidden fighting.
I would have attacked them, but we will be patient.
We will be patient until Allah brings us relief by His permission.
People of Allah, remain silent, keep calm, keep calm, let the people not cause us fitna.
Move aside! Move aside! We will not do anything until we know what your command is, O Umar.
Where is Ghayatoon? May your mother lose you, who are you?
Why are you asking about my destination? If you do not get out of my way, I will strike you and your companions down. Come on, move aside! We will not let you pass.
May Allah fight you, are you rushing to your own death? By Allah, I have no need to fight you, and it is only because of the command of the Messenger of Allah.
Except to defend myself, my wealth, and my children. If you insist, then come at me.
I have given you my excuse, and you have excused me.
Patience, my son. Haven't you ever been afraid, father?
Yes, I have been afraid, and if Allah had not placed fear in people.
For their families and themselves.
But courage, Abdullah, is to overcome your fear in moments that require determination.
And to instill in your opponent more fear than you have inside yourself, for he cares about his life just as much as you care about yours.
Did you understand what I said? Now, when we approach the Messenger of Allah, bow down to him, kiss his hands, and ask him to make du'a for you. I will try, father.
Abu Bakr, let no one surpass you in goodness.
Did you meet anyone on your way? May Allah protect us from them. And Allah is sufficient as a disposer of affairs.
Can't you find something to keep quiet?
The milk has dried up, O Abatur.
Relief will come, insha'Allah. We've been waiting for it for three days.
Three years, I seek Allah's forgiveness.
Go, Ali, go to Muhammad and stay with him wherever he is. And you, my daughter, we did not strive this hard.
We only made this effort for his sake, so let no harm come to him, or our effort will be wasted.
Your father has spent his life, and I do not fear death except that Quraysh might harm Muhammad after my death in a way they never dared during my life, but.
As for you, Ali, you have more of your life ahead of you than behind you, so be more protective of Muhammad than you are of yourself.
My life is a ransom for him, father. If he is pricked by a thorn and I can protect him with myself, I will do it.
Hey! Hey! Disperse! Disperse!
Do not let hunger drive you to selfishness and bad character.
Everyone will get their share, if Allah wills.
O people.
O people of Quraysh, listen to me.
We eat food and wear clothes while the Banu Hashim are perishing, not selling or buying from them.
By Allah, I will not sit down until we tear up this oppressive, unjust document. Lies!
By Allah, you will not tear it. You are, by Allah, the bigger liar. We did not accept it until it was hung up.
We do not accept what was written in it, nor do we acknowledge it.
It is as you said. By Allah, it is a disgrace and a shame. What did you even gain from it?
By Allah, you gained nothing except that you filled the hearts of the Arabs with hatred against you.
They say,
What is wrong with Quraysh that they have neglected their own children and cut off their family ties? This is not the character of the Arabs.
And they say, how could the companions of Muhammad show such patience in the face of this trial, all that patience.
Without raising a single stick in the faces of the leaders to defend themselves.
Except for a truth that filled their hearts, or a noble character they learned from their Prophet.
So all you did was elevate Muhammad and his companions, and lower your own status.
So many of the Arabs have turned to his religion, if he commanded them to fight you, they would do it.
By Allah, what a terrible opinion. Rather, let us go to the document and tear it up, and we do not care. This is a matter that was decided at night.
And the consultation took place somewhere else.
Say whatever you want, and I will be the first to tear it up.
What is this? Has the earth eaten it?
Except in Your name, O Allah.
What? Is this the emblem of the document? It works on. People, we disavow this oppressive and unjust document.
And we will not support anyone in the corruption of ourselves or our leaders.
Where is the Messenger of Allah ﷺ?
Show me where he is. What is behind you, O Umar? Good news for you today, O Banu Hashim.
Today, Allah has appointed someone to nullify and tear up the unjust document.
Really? You saw it?
Yes, and also Abu Talib. I have come to you with the good news before him, and he is right behind me.
Take me to the Messenger of Allah. Praise be to Allah.
Praise be to Allah. Leave your valley and return to your homes. Allah is the Greatest.
Allah is the Greatest.
Do not worry, my daughter. It is alright.
It is alright.
This is the Messenger of Allah, my brother.
Have I fulfilled it?
My effort in stopping you, my nephew.
By Allah, I would have wished for a longer life, not out of love for this world, but so I could continue supporting you.
But the time to depart has come.
And this is your son Ali, and these are your two uncles, Hamza and al-Abbas.
They are the people closest to you, they will not let you down nor abandon you. If you meet my son Ja'far,
then give him my greetings, and I advise him with what I advise Ali and Aqil.
And all my other brothers.
We will soon meet him as we promised at al-Aqaba, and we should not differ in his presence.
So whoever still has any need in himself regarding faith in him, let him turn back from us now.
Otherwise, we will go to him united in our purpose. Yes, by Allah.
We did not come from Yathrib except with this intention.
We will not turn back from the truth after it has become clear to us, so take us to it.
Yes, O Messenger of Allah, we pledge allegiance to you on what you mentioned: that we will not associate partners with Allah, nor steal, nor commit adultery, nor kill our children.
And that we will not bring any falsehood that we invent between our hands and feet, and we will not disobey Allah in what is right. But send with us a man from your Companions to teach us and our people.
Give us the truth, so that if next year comes, we will come to you with the numbers, and we and they will renew the pledge on what you require and love.
O Messenger of Allah, give us your hand for what we pledge to you.
And indeed, the foundation of the religion, without which its branches are not valid.
Is the tawhid of Allah, the Mighty and Majestic. So whoever wishes to enter Islam,
begins with the two testimonies, testifying that there is no deity but Allah and that Muhammad
is the Messenger of Allah, and disbelieves in false gods,
and idols, and abandons the practices of the people of ignorance. For Allah has made lawful.
for us the good things, and made the impure things haram for us, and commanded us to establish prayer, give charity, and do what is right.
And to fulfill rights and trusts to those entitled to them, and to judge between people with justice, even if it is against ourselves.
Our wives and our children.
And our brothers, it does not harm us if the one with the right differs from us, for he is more deserving to be followed.
And that there is no superiority among us except by taqwa, and He commanded us to maintain family ties.
And to reject the tribalism of ignorance.
And that each of us should love for his brother what he loves for himself, and that we gather in obedience to Him, so that we are united with one another.
Like a solid structure, each part supports the other.
