Alright, let's ask the sheikh about the Friday ghusl and the ghusl for janaba: is rinsing the mouth and nose included? We say that scholars have differed on this issue.
In summary, rinsing the mouth and nose is sunnah, whether in wudu or in ghusl.
Whether wudu is obligatory or recommended, or ghusl is obligatory or recommended, and some scholars consider it obligatory in janaba but not in wudu.
And some scholars make it a condition in obligatory ghusl but not in recommended ghusl, and some consider it recommended in all cases, and the apparent view is that it is recommended.
The apparent and recommended view in all cases, and some consider it obligatory, for example, when waking up from sleep.
This is the view of some of the salaf, but as far as I know, none of the four imams held this opinion.
Regarding the issue of rinsing the nose specifically upon waking up during wudu, that it is obligatory.
But the view that it is recommended is the well-known opinion, and even though the narration is attributed to Imam Ahmad, may Allah have mercy on him, the more correct view is otherwise, and Allah knows best.
