With the explanation of His saying, the Exalted: Do not exchange My verses for a small price.
His saying, the Exalted: Do not exchange My verses for a small price.
That is, a person does not accept matters of this world.
In order to present a false need to the disbelievers, and this was the case with the disbelievers among the Jews.
They distort the words after their places, they distort them to buy with Allah's verses, which they have altered, a small price.
So this was revealed about the People of the Book who exchanged Allah's verses for a small price, meaning they altered them to please others, as mentioned in.
The story of the Jewish man and woman who committed adultery.
They came to the Prophet ﷺ and said, "Judge between them."
He asked them, "What do you find in the Torah?"
They said, "We find in the Torah that they should be blackened, meaning black is put on their faces, and they are disgraced."
In front of the people. Abdullah ibn Salam, who was a Jew and became Muslim, and was one of their rabbis, said,
He said, "O Messenger of Allah, let them bring the Torah and recite it."
So they brought the Torah, and he said, "Read." He read that his face would be blackened, and he placed his hand over the verse of stoning in the Torah.
But Abdullah ibn Salam, apparently he memorized the Torah, so he said, "Lift your hand."
And he read in it: "And suddenly they return." This is from selling the verses of Allah, the Blessed and Exalted, that he is being hypocritical.
Changing the verses of Allah, the Blessed and Exalted, in order to gain something from this world—this even applies to Muslims who do the same thing. And Allah's help is sought.
