The Prophet used to fast on the Day of Arafah if he was not performing Hajj. Someone asked about the authenticity of this hadith. As for the Prophet, peace be upon him, regarding fasting on the Day of Arafah, it is established from the Prophet, peace be upon him.

As you mentioned, what is reported in the narration of Abu Qatadah in Sahih Muslim, when he was asked about fasting on the Day of Arafah, he said: I hope from Allah that it will expiate the previous year and the coming year.

We say this is a claim without any evidence. In fact, the clear evidence is to the contrary, and this practice has continued throughout the previous and later generations, and the umma is unanimous regarding this fasting.

As for those who are unaware, the evidence should be clarified for them. But as for those who want to follow assumptions or doubts,

they could fall into shirk due to suspicion and conjecture, let alone speak and use a minor issue of the religion or a branch of it as a pretext.
