After the tashahhud and before the salam, what does the person praying say?
After the tashahhud and before the salam is a time for du'a, and for this reason the Prophet, peace be upon him,
it is established from him that he would make du'a with supplications, among them the Prophet, peace be upon him, used to say: O Allah, I seek refuge with You from the punishment of the Fire.
The punishment of the grave, the trial of life and death, and the trial of the false messiah. It is also reported in the authentic narration from Aisha that the Prophet ﷺ used to say before, at the end of his prayer and before the salam: O Allah, I seek refuge with You from sin and debt.
So I say in this situation, a person may make whatever du'a he wishes, a person may make whatever du'a he wishes in his prayer, he may seek forgiveness from Allah the Mighty and Majestic, and also ask for pardon, forgiveness, and steadfastness.
And also, for example, safety from trials or the like, and he continues. Because some imams, for example, prolong their du'a, so the person should also make du'a.
Even if he repeats the du'a and says: O Allah, forgive me, O Allah, have mercy on me, O Allah, guide me, then repeats that until the salam, because this is one of the places for du'a.
As for the first tashahhud, the first tashahhud.
Is there du'a in it if the prayers are four or three units?
If the imam prolongs it, should he make du'a or not? I do not know anything from the Prophet ﷺ that this is a place for du'a, but it is confirmed as a statement from Abdullah ibn Umar.
He used to make du'a in the first tashahhud, he used to make du'a in the first tashahhud, so if a person does this following his example, there is no harm in it.
And if he remains silent, then this is in compliance due to the absence of evidence, so there is also no harm in it.
