This narration is also used as evidence that someone who joins the prayer late should enter with his imam in whatever position he finds him.
Whether he is bowing, standing, in sujud, or sitting—whatever position you find him in—because the Prophet ﷺ said: Whatever you catch, you have caught.
If you find him bowing, pray; if you find him in sujud, pray; if you find him standing, pray; if you find him sitting, pray. Some people, what do they do? If they find him in sujud or sitting.
He remains standing, upright, staring, waiting to see what the imam will do—will he say the salam?
Will he stand up, will he do this or that, and he misses out on a great virtue for himself.
Suppose you caught just one sujud with him, and in it you made one du'a to our Lord, and it was answered. That du'a could be the reason you enter Paradise.
He missed it, he didn't miss it. No, he is keen on not missing the congregation, and he wants to.
Maybe he wants to pray in another congregation, but how do you know if there will be another congregation?
Then, as will come to us, Allah willing, in this blessed book, most of the scholars do not permit it, meaning they dislike the second congregation, including the Malikis.
So is this neglecting a virtue, or going against the sunnah?
And an action that is disliked according to some scholars.
