He says, I heard from one of the members of the Fatwa Committee on the radio that whoever missed prayer for five or ten years must make them up.
This is a matter of disagreement among the scholars: does someone who leaves prayer for five years out of laziness,
Rather, he repents and becomes upright, but he has missed out on much good.
He has missed out on much good, so he should make up for it by performing many voluntary prayers. He has missed out on much good, as Al-Walid ibn Al-Walid said to Khalid.
Al-Walid ibn Al-Walid is the brother of Khalid ibn Al-Walid. He sent Khalid a message saying: My brother, you have missed out on much good.
That means in striving alongside the Messenger of Allah ﷺ, in praying behind the Messenger ﷺ, in faith in Allah the Blessed and Exalted, you have missed out on much good.
So we say to him, you have missed out on much good, but it cannot be made up, and knowledge belongs to Allah the Blessed and Exalted.
